Jamie Salter — a prolific acquirer of consumer brands such as Polaroid, Sharper Image and Halston — is getting fresh backing from investors including Los Angeles-based Leonard Green & Partners.

Authentic Brands Group, of Toronto, which Salter formed after a January split with Hilco Consumer Capital, has raised $250 million in equity in a deal that will give Leonard Green a controlling stake in the firm. Salter’s new firm is likewise getting backing from Knight’s Bridge Capital.

The new firm will hunt for investments in consumer electronics, sporting goods and home furnishings and hopes to announce its first acquisition in 90 to 120 days, Salter said.

Leonard Green’s past investments include Whole Foods, Sports Authority, Petco and The Container Store.
