Scanner for road warriors
Sick of struggling to keep track of receipts, business cards and other important documents you acquire on the road and don’t want to manually enter that data into your computer while you’re traveling?
NeatReceipts is a portable scanner and digital filing system that will help you electronically organize and find the information you need and ditch that pile of paper.
The slim scanner is a little over an inch in diameter and slightly less than a foot long. It weighs less than a pound and connects to and is powered by your laptop’s USB port.
It comes with NeatWorks’ software, which uses optical character recognition (OCR) and patented parsing technology to identify and capture key information from business cards, receipts and other documents.
With business cards, NeatWorks grabs all of the contact details and creates a digital image of the card. You can then export this data to Outlook or Mac’s Address Book. Mac users can also sync these contacts to their mobile devices.
From receipts, the software extracts the date, vendor, amount and sales tax. It also creates a digital copy of this information that you can export to Excel, Quicken and TurboTax, making it easy to keep track of your business expenses for tax purposes.
You can also use NeatReceipts to scan full-size documents. The scanner’s software captures all of the printed text, which you can then copy and edit.
NeatReceipts costs $200 and is available on neat.com and at various office-supply and electronics stores.
