Last-minute Christmas shoppers fueled by growing wages spent $34.4 billion Saturday on gifts, smashing records to make it the biggest shopping day in history.

Spending online and in stores combined on “Super Saturday” was 8 percent greater than last year, and beat out Black Friday by 10 percent, according to Customer Growth Partners, a retail research and consulting firm.

Some of the biggest sellers were Disney’s “Frozen II” toys, the Nintendo Switch, and Apple’s Air Pod Pro, iPhone 11 and Series 5 watch. Ripped denim is popular this year, as are ankle boots and thigh-high boots, Sherpa jackets and sweaters, the firm said.

“The momentum the last 10 days has been exceptional,” said Craig Johnson, the firm’s president. “We think it will have been the biggest Sunday ever as well.”
