No doubt it’s been a tough year for Stevie Cohen, founder of hedge fund SAC Capital. Several former employees have gotten caught up in cases alleging insider trading, and his ex-wife claims he admitted to trading on confidential information when they were married in the 1980s. Patricia also sued him for civil racketeering, saying he cheated her in their divorce.
Adding insult to injury was the revelation of an embarrassing video tape of his appearance on the Cristina talk show back in 1992, where he openly discussed his inability to break away from Patricia while dating his current wife, Alex.
Despite the woes, Cohen’s SAC Capital International fund – the firm’s flagship fund – ended the year up 28.39 percent, following gains of 2.18 percent in December, according to data reviewed by The Post.
The fund suffered only one down month this year, with a loss of 1.23 percent in April. And this year’s gains more than make up for last year’s losses of 19 percent.
