David Zaslav, the chief of Discovery Communications, received a $24 million stock-bonus payout last week, according to a regulatory filing.

For Zaslaz, 52, it was a nice bump up from the prior year’s $20.3 million in stock awards. The CEO’s total 2011 compensation package is expected to be disclosed in the company’s proxy statement filed later this year.

In 2010, his total compensation was $42.6 million.

At CBS, chief Les Moonves, 62, scored a $8.5 million stock award for 2011, up from the prior year’s stock award of $7.9 million, a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows.

Moonves, who climbed to the top post in 2006, commands a bigger pay package than Zaslav.

Moonves collected a total $57.7 million last year, the bulk in straight bonuses for lifting CBS from its on-again, off-again slump.

Zazlav, meanwhile, has nearly tripled the value of Discovery’s shares since he took the helm of Discovery in 2007.
