US stocks headed Friday into the long holiday weekend with their biggest weekly gain in a year.

Propelled by strong manufacturing data, The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 168 points, or 1.3 percent to 12,583.

For the week it was up about 5 percent, its best performance since last July.
