Stocks rallied Tuesday, pushing the Nasdaq Composite to close above the key 3,000 level for the first time since 2000.

On Tuesday, the Nasdaq added 56 points, to close at 3,039, a level not seen since December 2000.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 218 points, to 13,177, its highest level since May 2008.

The Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index advanced 24 points, to 1,396, reaching its highest level since June 2008.
