Stuy checks in the mail
Now that’s rent control! Yesterday, about 27,500 tenants at Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village won approval for its $68.8 million settlement with MetLife and CWCapital Asset Management over rent-overcharge claims.
Justice Richard Lowe of New York State Supreme Court, who granted preliminary approval in November, gave final consent in an order that found the agreement “fair, reasonable and adequate.”
The ruling clears the way for the tenants to receive checks ranging from $150 to more than $100,000.
