There’s a shortage of female CEOs in the Fortune 100, but the women who make it to the top out-earn their male counterparts by a long shot, according to a recent study.
Female CEOs working at top 100 companies pulled in on average last year $22.7 million — compared to $14.9 million for the guys, according to Equilar, an executive-compensation consultant.
Granted, there were only eight female CEOs on Equilar’s Top 100 list, compared with 93 male CEOs. (Oracle has two co-CEOs, which accounts for the 101 total.)
But the best paid female CEO, Safra Catz of Oracle, had the same total compensation of $53.2 million as the best paid male CEO — Catz’s co-leader at Oracle, Mark Hurd.
Seven of the eight female CEOs also served as board chairperson, but only two of three CEOs in the complete sample held the extra title.
