Three Ocean Partners has added a new rainmaker.

The newly formed investment bank — which lately has advised financier Jeffrey Vanderbeek in his effort to retain control over the New Jersey Devils — said William F. Detwiler has joined the firm as partner.

Detwiler, who has advised consumer companies like Hershey in mergers & acquisitions and restructurings, had teamed up a decade earlier with Three Ocean founder David Knowlton to form the boutique advisory firm Watch Hill Partners.

Knowlton and Detwiler sold Watch Hill in 2009 to FBR Capital Markets, with Detwiler staying on to head the consumer, retail and health-care practice until this summer.
