I’d like to say “good riddance” to Todd Zinser, the embattled inspector general of the Commerce Department who resigned this week.

I have written a lot about Zinser, and I didn’t have much nice to say. Among other things, Zinser headed the investigative unit of Commerce when it was “obstructing” a probe of the Census Bureau — a probe sparked by my columns.

Zinser said he was leaving for — what else? — personal reasons as he packed up his belongings and scurried out of his office Wednesday night.

If Congress is smart (and we know it isn’t) it will double back to determine all the wrongdoing Zinser didn’t investigate and all the whistleblowers he bothered (including at least two I’ve been working with).

We need more people like Zinser removed from government office.
