Bankrupt Tribune Co. is making moves to transform its television operations and the ripples are being felt as far away as WPIX-TV.

The Chicago-based media conglomerate said yesterday that Tribune Broadcasting President Jerry Kersting’s position was being eliminated.

Kersting was close to former CEO Randy Michaels, who Tribune replaced last month with Eddy Hartenstein. Michaels reportedly fostered a hostile work environment.

In the wake of the shuffle, WPIX Evening News Executive Producer Wilson Surratt is also leaving, a WPIX spokeswoman confirmed.

Surratt leaves as ratings for the 10 p.m. WPIX newscast are improving slightly.

Among the highly coveted 25-54 age group, WPIX, which was trailing WNYW-Fox 5 by just 1.16 to 1.10 in October, when a new format was launched, and had seen that gap widened in March to 1.96 to 0.84, rallied last month and now trails Fox 5 1.6 to 1.0, a WPIX source said.

News Corp owns WNYW-TV and The Post.
