Igor Poteroba, an executive director at UBS Securities, was arrested on federal insider trading charges and accused of leaking merger tips about health-care companies to another man, Alexei Koval.

Koval, who was also arrested, appeared in federal court in Chicago yesterday. Poteroba is expected to appear in Manhattan federal court today.

Prosecutors said Poteroba got inside information about mergers and acquisitions and passed information along to Koval and a third person.

Meanwhile, British authorities have arrested a seventh person as part of a historic crackdown on an insider trading ring that included an employee of US-based hedge fund Moore Capital, Julian Rifat. The name and company affiliation of the seventh person was not known at press time.
