Verizon Wireless and Google Inc. are teaming up to develop a tablet computer meant to compete with Apple Inc.’s iPad, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing comments by Verizon Wireless Chief Executive Lowell McAdam.

Calling tablet computers the “next big wave of opportunities,” McAdam declined to tell the Journal about the release date of such a device or who would make it.
