The Wegmans supermarket chain is recalling its in-house brand of frozen chicken nuggets after the federal government said the product may contain bone fragments — posing a potential health risk to consumers.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a public health alert over packages of “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat,” that were produced on August 26, 2024.
It comes in 46-ounce plastic packages with a “Best if Used By” date of August 26, 2025, printed on the back of the packaging near the barcode.

Federal health officials cited concerns that the product may contain bone fragments. USDAConsumers can identify the product by the establishment number “P-33944” located inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The affected products were sold at Wegmans locations in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, DC.
Wegmans pulled the products off of its shelves on Friday.
Although FSIS has not requested an official recall, the public health alert serves to inform consumers that this product should not be eaten.
The product is no longer available for purchase, but FSIS is concerned that some packages may still be in consumers’ freezers.
Wegmans received multiple consumer complaints about bone fragments in the chicken nuggets, prompting the investigation that led to the FSIS alert.

Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to discard it or return it to the store for a refund.
FSIS advises against consuming the product to avoid potential health risks.
