Oppenheimer & Co.’s bearish bank analyst, Meredith Whitney, is hanging out her own shingle.

The 39-year-old Whitney, known for her brutally accurate predictions on Citigroup, turned in her resignation yesterday after 15 years at the firm and is an ex-employee as of today.

Whitney jumped ship to start her own advisory firm, which is expected to be called Meredith Whitney LLC. She is looking to continue stock research at the new firm, but could branch out into other kinds of advisory services, including mergers and acquisitions, according to a person who’s talked to Whitney about her plans.
