YOUTUBE ZUCKER PUNCHED
Just days after Viacom demanded YouTube take down all its content, Jeff Zucker, the newly appointed head of NBC Universal, seized the opportunity to criticize the popular video-sharing site.
Like Viacom, Zucker faulted YouTube for failing to come up with filtering software or other tools to prevent copyrighted material from being posted on the site.
“YouTube needs to prove that it will implement its filtering technology across its online platform. It’s proven it can do it when it wants to,” Zucker told the Financial Times.
“They have the capability. The question is whether they have the will.”
Viacom, owner of cable Networks Comedy Central and, dealt YouTube a serious blow Friday by demanding the removal of 100,000 pirated videos.
Zucker is under pressure to shake up the Peacock and position it to compete with the Internet.
