Welcome to Big Appleville.

Zynga, the San Francisco startup which has hooked hundreds of millions of users on its addictive Internet videogames, branched out to the Big Apple yesterday. It acquired the city-based social game developer Area/Code and now has its first New York office.

The change was instant at Area/Code’s studio in the Flatiron District, where the new name is now Zynga New York.

“This addition is truly deepening our bench of world-class talent, with a team that ultimately shares our passion for innovation and success,” Zynga said in a statement.

Both firms have developed games that are popular on Facebook and smartphones.

The nearly four-year old Zynga is perhaps best known for the Farmville game — as well as its spin-offs — and Mafia Wars. Details of the deal were not disclosed.
