The joy of victory has never felt so hollow — or brief.

Bryant’s Ikenna Ndugba dribbled out the final few seconds and lofted the ball high in the air from near midcourt as time expired, apparently thinking his Bulldogs had defeated Brown. In reality, Bryant was trailing 91-90, and that would be the final score.

Tavon Blackmon made a layup with 3.8 seconds remaining, on the prior possession, to give Brown the decisive points in the back-and-forth battle. Blackmon’s winner came shortly after Nisre Zouzoua buried a 3 to give Bryant a 90-89 lead with 12 seconds left.

Steven Spieth — the younger brother of golf superstar Jordan — made back-to-back layups to give Brown (3-4) an 89-83 lead with 2:47 to play. Ndugba and Marcell Pettway made layups to bring Bryant (2-5) within two with 1:02 left.
