With the First Four play-in games moved back to Thursday this year due to COVID-19 protocols, the first full day of March Madness will take place on Friday.
Two No. 1 seeds – Illinois and Baylor — will be playing in the afternoon, with CAA champion Drexel and America East winner Hartford, respectively, looking to be this year’s version of UMBC, which became the first No. 16 seed ever to win an NCAA Tournament game in 2018 against Virginia.
Locally, Rutgers also will make its first appearance in the Big Dance since 1991 against Clemson. The night session also features Syracuse, making its 35th appearance in Jim Boeheim’s 45 seasons as head coach, facing San Diego State.
