St. John’s may not be done with its 2023 recruiting class after all.
Rick Pitino and company are targeting top high school guard Simeon Wilcher of Roselle (N.J.) Catholic and will host the top-35 prospect for a visit Thursday, sources told The Post.
The 6-foot-4 Wilcher had signed to play for North Carolina, but was released from his National Letter of Intent on Tuesday.
Wilcher’s role with the Tar Heels became uncertain after fellow New Jersey high school star Elliot Cadeau moved up a year into the 2023 class, and North Carolina coach Hubert Davis added a few guards in the transfer portal.
Wilcher, if he signs, would compete to be one of St. John’s starting guards alongside Penn transfer Jordan Dingle, the nation’s second-leading scorer next year.
Potential starting guard Daniss Jenkins, one of Pitino’s top players last season at Iona, isn’t expected to arrive on campus until the fall.

A two-time transfer, Jenkins has to graduate otherwise he would likely have to sit out next season.
Wilcher is ranked as the 34th-best prospect in the country, according to 247Sports.com.
At the time he picked North Carolina, the dynamic guard held scholarship offers from, among others, Kansas, Oregon, Ohio State, Xavier, Miami, Connecticut and Auburn.
Wilcher’s teams went a perfect 17-0 in the New Jersey state tournament during his career.
Wilcher is the second highly rated Roselle Catholic prospect Pitino has pursued.
St. John’s was in the mix for McDonald’s All-American Mackenzie Mgbako, who took an official visit to St. John’s, but ended up signing with Indiana after getting his release from Duke.

Pitino will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Subway Series on Tuesday at Citi Field.
Pitino said he roots for both the Mets and Yankees, so he will wear St. John’s gear, rather than a Mets or Yankees jersey or hat.
