The NBA rookie fatally shot after breaking into a Dallas apartment was once threatened with that same fate by a college teammate.
Bryce Dejean-Jones, who just finished his first pro season with the New Orleans Pelicans, last year recalled how an unidentified teammate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas wished him dead following their season-ending loss in 2014.
“This guy walks in, he’s just yelling at me, saying all these things about me, and then he just tells me: ‘I should have shot you when I had the chance,’ ” Dejean-Jones, 23, told the Ames (Iowa) Tribune.
Dejean-Jones was fatally shot by a man awakened when the 6-foot-6, 203-pound guard kicked open his door at 3:20 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Management at the Camden Belmont apartments said Dejean-Jones thought he was “breaking into the apartment of an estranged acquaintance [but] inadvertently broke into the wrong apartment.”
