New St. John’s coach Mike Anderson has begun building his staff.

The program announced on Friday that TJ Cleveland would be joining as Anderson’s associate head coach.

A former student-athlete and staffer at Arkansas, Cleveland has become one of college basketball’s best young recruiters, helping the Razorbacks to land top-25 recruiting classes in 2017 and 2018.

“TJ is going to impact Red Storm basketball in a big way,” Anderson said via press release. “He’s a tremendous evaluator of talent, a great ‘on-the-floor’ coach and an excellent communicator. TJ brings so much to the table because he has played in this system and knows it so well. He’s a great head coach in waiting. We are lucky to have TJ Cleveland on our staff here at St. John’s.”

Cleveland is Anderson’s nephew and was on his staffs at Alabama-Birmingham, Missouri and Arkansas.
