St. John’s season ended in brutal fashion.

The Johnnies lost, 75-66, to Arkansas in the second round, way earlier than what they expected after what was previously a magical season.

They struggled mightily on offense, shooting a woeful 28 percent from the field and 9.1 percent from 3-point range in the loss.

Star RJ Luis, who was the Big East Player of the Year and a Second Team All-American, had just nine points on 3-for-17 shooting from the field along with 0-for-3 from 3-point range.

He was also benched down the stretch.

After so much hype, St. John’s is St. Gone.

St. John’s is St. Gone’s with March Madness dreams shattered way earlier than expected

By Steve Serby

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — No one wanted this to end. No one wanted this Sweet dream to shatter. No one wanted this Dream Team to go home.

No one wanted to stop watching RJ Luis Jr. and Kadary Richmond flash their NBA tools. No one wanted to stop watching the way Zuby Ejiofor infused his team with energy and physical presence.

No one wanted to stop watching Rick Pitino, 72 years young, run a marathon on the sideline while dressed impeccably.

No one wanted the gritty New York team to stop honoring the memory of Lou Carnesecca.

No one wanted anything short of a Final Four.

But short of a Sweet 16?

No one wanted Arkansas 75, St. John’s 66.

No one expected St. Gone’s this early.
