The University of Southern California was well-prepared to take care of Bronny James when he suddenly collapsed on Monday — because they had done it a year ago on the same court.

In July 2022, USC treated 7-foot freshman Vince Iwuchukwu for cardiac arrest when he collapsed on the basketball floor during a workout, administering CPR, calling 911, and using an AED, all of which ultimately saved Iwuchukwu’s life and allowed him to keep playing basketball.

Last year’s scary incident gave the school experience in treating a sudden cardiac arrest when Bronny, the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, collapsed due to cardiac arrest on Monday morning at USC’s Galen Center while practicing and was rushed to the Cedar Sinai Hospital in West Hollywood.

Bronny, 18, an incoming freshman at USC, was in stable condition and no longer in the ICU by Tuesday, according to the James family.

In Iwuchukwu’s case, it took less than a minute for the trainer to perform CPR, and the AED unit was deployed shortly after.

“With something like this, where it’s a life-or-death situation, to perform under pressure and do what they’re trained to do at that level, it’s really just incredible,” USC coach Andy Enfield said of the Iwuchukwu incident.

“They gave Vince just such incredible care, as quickly as could be possible in a situation like that.”

Bronny James, the 18-year-old son of NBA superstar LeBron James, went into cardiac arrest during a basketball practice with his team at the University of Southern California on Monday.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Group cardiologist Merije Chukumerije said in a statement Thursday that Bronny “has been discharged home, where he is resting.”

It’s too soon to know how Bronny’s episode will affect his basketball career, since it largely depends on the underlying causes of the cardiac arrest.

“When they come up with a mechanism for why he had the cardiac arrest, you could then and only then make an informed decision regarding his recovery and his ability to go back on the court,” Dr. Marc Cohen, Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Newark-Beth Israel Medical Center, told The Post.

Iwuchukwu returned to the team in January and played in 14 games.

Though all the details about Bronny’s collapse are not yet clear, the 18-year-old did lose consciousness in the minutes between his cardiac event and the ambulance arriving — which used a “Code 3, lights and sirens” to make Bronny’s trip to Cedar Sinai as fast as possible.

James’ limited time in the ICU suggests that USC’s response was “masterfully executed,” Dr. Michael Ackerman, a genetic cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic, told the LA Times.

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes,” the James family said in a statement to TMZ.

According to a report on Wednesday morning, the James family is “relieved” about Bronny’s condition, though the hospital will take more tests to determine the cause of his collapse.

LeBron arrived at the hospital on Tuesday to visit his son, who committed to USC in May.

The NBA star has previously expressed a wish to play with Bronny in the NBA before he retires.
