Your bracket is filled out and ready to be ripped up. There’s just one thing missing from March Madness on Thursday afternoon: The games.

The NCAA Tournament had to alter its 2021 schedule for COVID-19 reasons. The entire tournament is being staged in Indianapolis and extra time was built in for testing and quarantine protocols to be observed more thoroughly.

It’s better than 2020 when the whole tournament was canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

In normal years, the First Four would be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, then the first round would commence on Thursday with 16 games being played that day and Friday.

The First Four will now all be played Thursday night with the first round taking place on Friday and Saturday.

Virginia, which won the national championship in 2019 and is the de-facto defending champion, is stuck quarantining in Charlottesville after a player’s positive COVID-19 test forced them out of the ACC Tournament last week.

They have yet to receive any more positive tests, but will not be leaving for Indianapolis until Friday morning. The Cavaliers are the No. 4 seed in the West Region and will take on Ohio on Saturday night.

And other teams are dealing with issues as well. Oklahoma will be without sophomore guard De’Vion Harmon, the team’s second-leading scorer, after he tested positive for COVID-19. And Georgia Tech’s Moses Wright, the ACC Player of the Year, is also out for undisclosed reasons.

The second round of the NCAA Tournament will then be played Sunday and Monday with the Sweet 16 commencing next Saturday.
