The Pitinos will be keen observers of WrestleMania 36.

Rick Pitino, the new Iona men’s basketball coach, challenged his son Richard, the coach at Minnesota, to a bet on the Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre WWE title match, which will headline night two of WrestleMania 36 on Sunday. The stakes? Who hosts next season’s clash between the two teams.

If @BrockLesnar wins, you guys play at Iona next year. If @DMcIntyreWWE wins, we’ll play at the Barn.

“If @BrockLesnar wins, you guys play at Iona next year. If @DMcIntyreWWE wins, we’ll play at the Barn,” the elder Pitino wrote after sharing a picture of his grandchildren holding WrestleMania signs.

“How about you reverse that and it’s a deal. Can’t root against a Gopher,” Richard Pitino responded, referencing Lesnar, who won an NCAA wrestling championship at Minnesota.

If that’s a deal, odds are Iona will have some Big Ten visitors in New Rochelle: McIntrye is listed by Bovada as a nearly 1-2 favorite.

WrestleMania began Saturday as a two-night event for the first time ever. It was mostly taped at WWE’s training center in Orlando without fans because of the coronavirus outbreak.
