Lance Armstrong didn’t have to wait long for “60 Minutes” to respond to his demand for an on-air apology.

Late yesterday the boss of the TV news magazine said not only would he stand behind the report from last Sunday that the cyclist engaged in doping, but claimed again that Armstrong still has “not addressed [the] charges” lodged by two former teammates.

“Lance Armstrong and his lawyers were given numerous opportunities to respond to every detail of our reporting for weeks prior to the broadcast and their written responses were fairly and accurately included in the story,” “60 Minutes” boss Jeff Fager said in a prepared statement late yesterday.

In a letter to Fager early yesterday, lawyers for Armstrong called last Sunday’s report “either extraordinarily shoddy, to the point of being reckless and unprofessional, or a vicious hit-and-run job.”
