Along with the big three, there’s a “Nutcracker” for every taste and budget. To wit:
* Urban Ballet Theater’s hip-hop and salsa-flavored version, “Nutcracker in the Lower,” features ‘hood-dancing rats battling hip-hop soldiers. $20; tomorrow to Dec. 5 at Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand St.; 212-352-3101.
* New York Theatre Ballet’s hourlong version of “The Nutcracker” is perfect for preschoolers. It even has a baton twirler in the finale. $35-$40; Dec. 11-19, Florence Gould Hall, 55 E. 59th St; 212-355-6160.
* “Nut/Cracked,” David Parker’s contemporary but sweet-tempered sendup of the ballet, features bubble wrap, toe-tapping and, in the midst of the satire, an absolutely lovely version of the snow waltz. $20; Dec. 17-20; Dance Theater Workshop, 219 W. 19th St.; 212-924-0077.
* Gelsey Kirkland, the ballet legend (and one-woman soap opera) from the ’70s now has her own academy. She’s joined forces with the Joffrey School to present her setting of the ballet. $45-$85 ($20-$40 by Tuesday), Dec. 17-19; Gerald Lynch Theater at John Jay College, 899 10th Ave.; 212-254-8520.
* Ballet for Young Audiences also performs a version geared to children, with a narrator to explain the story. $10-$12; Dec. 28-30; Queens Theatre in the Park, Flushing Meadows, Corona Park. 718-760-0064.
