Arness dead at 88
“Gunsmoke” star James Arness died yesterday in California. He was 88.
Arness, the brother of late actor Peter Graves, starred as US Marshal Matt Dillon on “Gunsmoke,” which aired on CBS from 1955 to 1975 with co-stars Dennis Weaver, Amanda Blake and Milburne Stone.
“Gunsmoke” is tied with “Law & Order” as the longest-running drama series in network history.
After “Gunsmoke,” Arness starred as a cop in “McClain’s Law,” which aired on NBC from 1981-82.
He also starred in the ’50s B-movie classics “Them!” and “The Thing.”
