Rapper Killer Mike was booked on a misdemeanor battery charge after securing three wins at the 2024 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
“On Sunday February 4th just after 4 p.m. a male adult was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court,” the official LAPD X (formerly Twitter) account posted.
“The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division.”
The statement later identified “48-year-old Michael Render,” adding that the Grammy winner had been booked under the charges of “Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released” following a citizen’s arrest.
According to police records, Michael “Killer Mike” Render was released from custody on his own recognizance an hour after being detained.
The performer allegedly got into trouble after he knocked down a security officer after he did not move away fast enough in the pouring rain.

Video of Killer Mike being escorted away first emerged prior to the official Grammy’s broadcast when Hollywood Reporter journalist Chris Gardner posted a clip of the rap star walking through the Crypto.com Arena with two officers. @chrissgardner/XAccording to the California Penal Code, “A battery is punishable by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six months, or by both that fine and imprisonment.”
Render is reportedly scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 29.
Footage obtained by TMZ also shows the fallen officer attempting to stop the musician from fleeing the scene.
“An official tells someone on his team that it’s possible he may be released later tonight from the arena. Unclear if he’s being booked here and what he’s charged with. Trying to find out,” Gardner added in a follow-up tweet. The Post reached out to Render and the LAPD for comment.

In a third tweet, Gardner wrote that he “spoke to an official who tells me it’s a misdemeanor and has nothing to do with anything that happened today here inside the arena” and that the official expected the Grammy winner to be released once it was sorted.
“It’s a big nothing,” he concluded.
Harvey Mason Jr., the current CEO of the Recording Academy and main producer behind the Grammys, was later spotted chatting with Render’s team.
