In the year of Barbenheimer, it was the suffix that won big at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday.
The SAGs — effectively an Oscars crystal ball, historically giving the most reliable preview of which movies and actors will go on to win Academy Awards in a given year — aired live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Feb. 24, a first for the streaming giant.
“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” went into the night tied for the most nominations (four), but it was Christopher Nolan’s atomic-bomb thriller that stole the show, taking three wins including the night’s top honor, Best Cast in a Motion Picture — besting the casts of “Barbie,” “The Color Purple,” “American Fiction” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Meanwhile the TV categories were dominated by “Beef” and “The Bear,” with acting wins for Ali Wong, Steve Yuen, Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri.
