Talk about lowering the “Bar.”
Barstool Sports outraged music fans after including vocalists Ashlee Simpson and Addison Rae in a tweeted list of the “best female singers of all time” on Tuesday — although many suspected the list was compiled in jest. The controversial Twitter roundup was quoted 13,900 times and received more than 6,800 likes as of Wednesday morning.
In the inflammatory tweet, “Pieces Of Me” singer Simpson, 37, was ranked seventh, under R&B icon Beyoncé, and ahead of newly inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Tina Turner. Meanwhile, Louisiana-born TikTok star Rae, 21, placed last behind Adele, who boasts a mind-boggling 15 Grammy awards. Coming in first was pop star Mariah Carey, followed by Whitney Houston, JoJo Siwa and Lady Gaga.
Suffice to say, Twitter tune enthusiasts did not take kindly to the inclusion of the two blonde bombshells, who, we might add, haven’t won a single Grammy between them.
“On what planet is Ashlee Simpson one of the Top 10 female singers of all time?” fumed one Twitter critic of the Texas-born songwriter and actress.
“I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that this includes Ashlee Simpson or that it DOESN’T include Stevie Nicks,” shot another. One flabbergasted music fan wrote, “Where is Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand, and WHY is Ashlee Simpson on this list?
Fans did not take too kindly to Barstool’s Twitter ranking.
Others turned the crosshairs on Rae, who was reportedly temporarily banned from TikTok this past fall — a punishment internet sleuths suspect was prompted by a video showing off the star’s clothed derriere.
“ADDISOJ F—ING RAE ???????” spluttered one disillusioned poster of the singer, who boasts 85.8 million followers on TikTok. Another quipped, “why is Fraudison here.”
However, other Barstool followers claimed that the lineup was meant to inflame viewers for social media clout.
“Now THIS is how you do the whole getting impressions by winding people up thing properly,” postulated one commenter, while another wrote, “It’s not a real list. They do these every so often to get ratioed and go viral.”
This past fall, Addison Rae was allegedly banned temporarily from TikTok, where she boasts over 85 million followers. FilmMagic,Barstool Sports has yet to reply to The Post’s inquiry about whether or not the ranking was a goof.
However, it wasn’t the first time this year that Rae has been accused of being out of her element. During the 2021 Met Gala in September, Twitter wits accused influencer Rae of purchasing her cocktail dress at discount clothing purveyor Shein.
