THE US has passed another TV landmark — more than half of all American homes now own a high-definition TV.

According to a survey by Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing, 53 percent of US households are high def — up from 35 percent just a year ago.

The growth in the number of homes with big screen, high-tech TV sets has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise slumping economy.
