Brendan Fraser said that the abrupt cancellation of “Batgirl” wouldn’t “engender trust” between filmmakers and the studio.

Fraser played the villain Firefly who battles Leslie Grace’s Batgirl in the film.

“It’s tragic,” Fraser told Variety. “Leslie Grace was fantastic. She’s a dynamo, just a spot-on performer.”

The star of the upcoming film “The Whale” praised the cast and crew for their work.

“Everything that we shot was real and exciting and just the antithesis of doing a straightforward digital all green screen thing,” he said. “They ran firetrucks around downtown Glasgow at 3 in the morning and they had flamethrowers.

“It was a big-budget movie, but one that was just stripped down to the essentials,” Fraser continued.

The ill-fated DC film was slated to be released on HBO Max, but was shelved in August after Discovery and WarnerMedia merged and decided to turn off the bat signal for good.

According to Fraser, the film’s directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah put together a rough cut — which he has not seen — and were still tinkering with the film when it ended up on the cutting room floor.

“I don’t eat half baked cake,” said “The Mummy” star.

“Everything that Adil and Bilall shot felt real and exciting.”
