Going ‘West’

“True West” is on its way out. The Sam Shepard play, currently starring Josh Brolin and Elias Koteas as two brothers less unlike than they think, will close July 28 after 154 performances and 21 previews.

When “True West” opened on March 2 at Circle in the Square Theater, 50th Street and Broadway, Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly alternated roles in a way that dazzled critics and snagged four Tony nominations.

The new leads have left critics underwhelmed. Wrote The Post’s Donald Lyons recently in his re-review of the show: “It feels more like an episode of ‘Cops’ than ‘True West.'”

They’re back

The ’80s all-girl band the Bangles – who made millions want to “Walk Like an Egyptian” before splitting up in 1989 – are teaming up again.

“We have songs coming out our ears,” said Susanna Hoffs, the band’s 41-year-old singer and guitarist.

Bandmate Vicki Peterson, 42, said they’d been offered many things in the last few years – “cheesy and otherwise, mostly cheesy.” Among the projects they’d rejected: a joint tour with the Go-Go’s and a stint with the all-female Lilith Fair.

Instead, the Bangles will join Black Crowes producer George Drakoulias in the studio to record a new album before hitting the road Sept. 13.

“People will come to hear the hits or the Bangles songs that they fell in love with when they were 12,” Peterson said. “But we’re definitely going to try their patience with some new stuff.”

Team two

Tom Cruise and Cameron Crowe – the team behind the winning “Jerry Maguire” – may just do it again.

According to Daily Variety, Cruise is preparing to sign on the dotted line in an untitled love story that Crowe will write and direct.

Cruise is currently flying high with “Mission: Impossible 2,” the highest-grossing film of the year, banking $207 million so far.

The 1996 “Jerry Maguire,” which Crowe wrote and directed, grossed $154 million. It also picked up five Academy Award nominations and won one for Cuba Gooding Jr., who crowed, “Show me the money!”

Production on the new Cruise-Crowe flick is tentatively slated for late fall.
