FANS are upset at the prospect of having to shell out almost $20 for a subscription to watch “Big Brother 2” 24 hours a day on the Internet.
Last summer, when AOL carried the video feed, it almost became more popular than the CBS reality show that bored millions of TV viewers, and was slammed by critics. Most of the video was free, while a few others were for AOL members only.
This summer, it will cost $19.95 for a subscription to the video portion of CBS’ “Big Brother” Web site. Never before has a major U.S. network charged money for its Web content. “Most people are not used to paying for content on the Internet right now,” said Paul Sims, the Web master of the Web site, bigbrothersucks.com.
Earlier this week, fans who logged onto the “Big Brother” Web site at cbs.com were greeted with a message that said the new pay-per-view service was on the way.
The message had “Big Brother” fan Web sites buzzing yesterday about boycotting the show.
