King Charles III discusses the ‘uncertainties and anxieties of illness’ during his Christmas speech

King Charles III is thankful for those who stood by the royal family this past year.

The monarch, 76, reflected on 2024, which saw both him and his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton revel their respective cancer diagnoses.

“All of us go through some form of suffering at some stage in our life, be it mental or physical,” the king said in his pre-taped message for his annual Christmas address. “The degree to which we help one another — and draw support from each other, be we people of faith or of none — is a measure of our civilization as nations.”

“I am speaking to you today from the Chapel of the former Middlesex Hospital in London,” the king continued, “and thinking especially of the many thousands of professionals and volunteers here in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth who, with their skills and out of the goodness of their heart, care for others, often at some cost to themselves.”

Royal family steps out for Christmas Day church service at Sandringham

By Lauren Sarner

On Wednesday, all working members of the royal family congregated in St. Mary Magdalene Church on Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

King Charles and Queen Camilla, who have made Christmas morning mass at Sandringham Church an annual tradition, were joined by Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

King Charles and Queen Camilla led the royal family’s walk for the third year, which saw them greeting members of the public on their way to the church. Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children were close behind them.

The outing came after an especially rough year for the family, as both Charles and Kate battled cancer, and Camilla had recently missed several engagements due to pneumonia.

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, was also in attendance, as was her daughter Zara Tindall and her former rugby player husband, Mike Tindall.

Prince George overjoyed by Oscar-nominated actor’s rendition of ‘A Christmas Carol’

By Sean Mandell

Prince George was feeling the festive spirit at his mom Kate Middleton’s annual “Together at Christmas” carol service.

The second-in-line for the throne, 11, was all smiles as he listened to Richard E. Grant, 67, do a dramatic reading of a passage from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” clearly enjoying the Oscar-nominated actor’s performance.

Young George wasn’t the only royal to enjoy Grant’s Dickensian delivery. Cameras cut to his sister Princess Charlotte, 9, and brother Prince Louis, 6, grinning just as hard during the lighthearted moment.

Little Louis couldn’t contain his smirk as he peered around, bobbing back and forth in his seat, while a beaming Charlotte looked to her mom Catherine, 42, who was equally taken with Grant’s performance.

Elsewhere in the service, Charlotte was spotted giggling as the classic Christmas hymn “O Come All Ye Faithful,” before settling and displaying the calm poise for which she’s known — poise which she often needs as she takes mischievous Louis in hand when he gets squirrelly during public appearances.

By Sean Mandell and Nika Shakhnazarova

Kate Middleton’s highly anticipated Christmas carol concert has returned!

The Princess of Wales, 42, led her fourth “Together at Christmas” extravaganza to welcome in the festive season. The event was pre-recorded and took place at London’s Westminster Abbey on Dec. 6.

It was also Kate’s first Christmas carol service since she revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024.

In a moving speech that kicked off the broadcast, the princess shared that Christmas is a time to reflect on “our own vulnerabilities.”

“Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year, it is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it’s also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all,” Kate began.

“It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life, that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness, so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about.”

“The Christmas story encourages us to consider the experiences and feelings of others,” she added.

“It also reflects our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy, as well as just how much we need each other in spite of our differences. Above all else, it encourages us to turn to love, not fear.”

By Carly Ortiz-Lytle

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg announced his intention to abdicate the throne in favor of his son, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, in his annual Christmas Eve message.

"When I look back today, after almost 25 years, I do so with deep gratitude and humility. It has been a period during which Luxembourg has made much progress, and I am pleased to have been able to be part of that journey with you, together with the Grand Duchess," the Grand Duke said on Tuesday evening.

Henri, 69, appointed his son Guillaume lieutenant-representative, a traditional signal of an impending abdication in Luxembourg, in October.

Guillaume, 43, will officially become ruler of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on Oct. 3 2025. The heir, a father of two, has taken on the duties of swearing in ambassadors and signing degrees since becoming lieutenant-representative.

A peek at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's sparkling California Christmas trees

By Sean Mandell

In Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2022 Netflix docuseries "Harry and Meghan," the royal couple gave a glimpse into how they celebrate Christmas.

The TV series showed Christmas trees the pair have put up in the few years they have lived in their new home in Montecito, Calif., where they moved after quitting royal life in 2020.

In once scene, Meghan's cousin Ashleigh is shown lounging with Princess Lilibet in front of their sparking tree, while in another, Meghan stands atop a ladder as she wraps lights around her festive fir.

The two trees appear to be different, though the room they're in looks to be the same — suggesting the trees were from different years (possibly 2020 and 2021), but were both stood up in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Southern California mansion.

Giving cheeky Christmas gifts is a royal family tradition -- here are some of the ones we know about

By Sean Mandell

Members of the royal family are known to give humorous gifts to one another on Christmas. Here are some of the gifts the Windsors have reportedly given each other over the years.

In 2017, during one of her few Christmases in the royal fold, Meghan Markle allegedly gifted the late Queen Elizabeth II a singing hamster. That same year, it's claimed the future Duchess of Sussex gave her brother-in-law Prince William a spoon with the words “cereal killer” emblazoned on it (as mentioned in the book "Finding Freedom").

William, meanwhile, reportedly once gave Queen Elizabeth a pair of slippers with her face on them.

As for Prince Harry, one year the Duke of Sussex gave the late monarch a shower cap with the phrase “Ain’t life a b--ch" written on it and, at another Christmas, gave her a Big Mouth Billy Bass singing toy, both of which she allegedly loved.

During Harry's pre-Meghan era, the prince's sister-in-law Kate Middleton gave him a grow-your-own-girlfriend kit (per the royal biography "Kate: The Future Queen").

And King Charles supposedly once got a leather toilet seat from his sister Princess Anne, a gift so beloved one report claimed he brings it with him when he travels abroad.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face ‘pivotal decision’ with Netflix in the new year

By Nika Shakhnazarova

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are bracing themselves for a suspected financial blow as their lucrative Netflix deal comes to an end in 2025, a royal commentator has suggested.

The couple signed a $100 million deal with the streaming giant in 2020 after quitting royal life and moving to the US.

After releasing a series of bombshell tell-all projects stateside, the pair have now adopted a new “twin-track” business strategy in a desperate bid to salvage their public image, which has taken a hit in recent years.

As the end of their Netflix partnership looms, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggested a renewal of the contract is “absolutely pivotal” for the duo’s new approach to be successful.

“Their separation of work is being tried out, and it worked perfectly well in the sense there have been no glitches. What they need is her cookery series for Netflix,” Fitzwilliams told GB News.

“What is absolutely pivotal is the renewal of the contract with Netflix next year, so precisely what happens in the coming months financially is vital.”
