The eldest and reported "favorite" grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II with Kennedy good looks announced Friday that he is engaged to Harriet Sperling after one year of dating.

“Mr. Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms. Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr. Rupert Sanders and Mrs. Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement,” a spokesperson for the couple told CNN in a statement.
“Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement."
The statement noted that “no date has officially been set for the wedding."

Phillips, 47, and Sperling, 45, who first started dating in 2024, showed off their engagement pictures with a photo shoot in Hello! Magazine.
The pending marriage is "wonderful news" not only for the couple, but for Phillip's extended royal family as well, according to the mag's royal editor.
"Peter is close to the King and to his cousins and Harriet seems to have been warmly welcomed into the fold," editor Emily Nash said.

Sperling is a pediatric nurse for Britain’s National Health Service and a freelance writer.
Phillips was previously married to Autumn Kelly. They divorced in 2020, and share daughters Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13.
Prince Harry is keen for his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to follow in his footsteps by receiving a British education, according to a former palace staffer.

However, according to a former royal butler, the “Spare” author is “quite keen” for the pair’s children to come to the UK for their education in the future.
“It’s very likely and it’s completely possible because if they have their younger education in America, I’m sure their father will be quite keen to have a bit of a British education, but then it depends on how the relationship is with the rest of the family when the time comes,” said Grant Harrold, former personal butler to King Charles.

As for how Andrew, 65, managed to emerge victorious in the fight over the royal digs, the duke presented Charles with “a lease document that states he is legally entitled to stay there,” the outlet adds.
An upcoming Princess Margaret biography claims Queen Elizabeth II's younger sister suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome caused by her mother Queen Elizabeth's drinking during pregnancy.

The disorder — which develops when a child is exposed to alcohol while in the womb — can cause lifelong behavioral troubles and physical disabilities, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Pulitzer-nominated Meryle Secrest, author of several biographies on notable people, writes in "Princess Margaret and the Curse: An Inquiry into a Royal Life," that Margaret — who died in 2002 at the age of 71 due to a range of health issues, including several strokes — didn't have any physical symptoms related to the disorder, but did suffer from constant mood swings, migraines and learning deficiencies that could be connected to it.
The royal author's book surmises that fetal alcohol syndrome could have played a significant role in the princess' personality, The Telegraph reports.

Princess Margaret was born in 1930, more 40 years before fetal alcohol syndrome was discovered in 1973, forming the notion that Queen Elizabeth, a known drinker, wasn't aware of the dangers or advised against drinking while pregnant.

The Queen Mother, who had given birth to the future Queen Elizabeth II four years prior, had been repulsed by alcohol during her first pregnancy.
"The sight of wine simply turns me up! Isn’t it extraordinary! It will be a tragedy if I never recover my drinking powers," she wrote in a letter to her husband, George VI, in 1952, according to The Telegraph.
