On the outside, it looks like the kind of photo album you’d find in your grandmother’s house. But the dated pink floral design on the cover belies the treasure trove of Hollywood history hidden inside.
The album was packed with photos of a veritable who’s who of cinematic icons from Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts to William Shatner and Harrison Ford — even a rare picture of Tom Hanks sporting a goatee.
The one common denominator: A mysterious plump, middle-aged lady with curly two-toned hair smiling and embracing the megastars.
The album was found in a thrift store in Belgium, Opnieuw & Co, in Mortsel.
Employees at the shop shared some of the snaps they found on their Facebook page hanging with the likes of Tom Cruise, Juliette Lewis, Steven Spielberg and more — causing internet sleuths to crack the case of the mystery woman who apparently knows everyone.
“We still have no idea how the album got to us,” a spokesperson for the store told Bored Panda. “One of our people browsed through the album and realized this was not something that someone would get rid of voluntarily.”
They figured out the woman’s name through a press badge in one of the photos.
The mystery lady is Maria Snoeys-Lagler, a former member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), whose about 90 members from 55 countries control the coveted Golden Globes Awards. The HFPA members are flown around the world and feted at lavish galas, parties and luxury destinations in order for movie executives and stars to woo them (and their votes).
Despite being listed as an official member in the past, it is not known for what publication she actually worked for — just her name and country were listed in a Variety round up of HFPA members.
Snoeys-Lagler died in 2016 at age 87.
The store has reached out to her daughter, who lives in California, Bored Panda reported, and are preparing to return the album to her.
