LISA Evers, the former wife of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, is joining Ch. 5’s news team as a general assignment reporter.
Evers will leave all-news radio station WINS (1010 AM), where she’s been a beat reporter, and begins her new assignment on Monday.
“She could appear on any of our newscasts, but generally she’ll be doing the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. [newscasts],” said Ch. 5 news director Neil Goldstein.
“At the beginning, she’ll be contributing to the 5 and 6, and we’ll see how it goes from there.”
Ch. 5 kicks off its new 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts on Aug. 12.
“Lisa knows the streets and is an interesting personality,” Goldstein said.
“Years ago, in my first life here, I was on the assignment desk at Ch. 7 and I was one of the first people to put Curtis [Sliwa] on the air – and I just remember how interesting Lisa was.
“Then, when I got back to town, I heard her on WINS and thought she would be a good fit here.”
Evers, then known as Lisa Sliwa, co-hosted “Angels in the Morning” on WABC (770 AM) with then-husband Curtis Sliwa. They divorced in 1994.
She also hosted “Street Soldiers” on Hot 97.
The 5-6 p.m. newscast will be anchored by John Roland and Linda Schmidt, with Rosanna Scotto and Len Cannon anchoring from 6 to 6:30 p.m. (and continuing to co-anchor at 10.)
