LOS ANGELES — Actor Chord Overstreet is returning to “Glee” just months after he was dismissed from the series, the FOX network confirmed Monday.

The TV musical’s producers declined to renew Overstreet’s contract as a series regular in July, though a source close to the show said at the time he could return as an occasional guest star.

He was reportedly in negotiations last week to make his return, according to TV Line.

“We love Chord and have always said that we wanted him back,” show co-creator Ryan Murphy said in a press release.

He called the return of Overstreet’s character, sensitive transfer student Sam Evans, “an early Christmas present for all the ‘Gleeks.'”

Overstreet added that he “had the best time on ‘Glee’ and couldn’t be more excited to be returning.”

He will return to the show for a multi-episode story arc beginning in December.

It was not immediately clear how Overstreet’s character would be reintroduced. The second season of “Glee” ended with Sam Evans moving out of Ohio, where the show is set.

The FOX network is owned by News Corp., the parent company of NewsCore.
