British star Colin Firth is desperate to win the Best Actor Oscar next month as he’s sick as being known as Mr Darcy, The Sun reported Wednesday.

The housewives’ favorite says he’s disappointed his role in TV drama “Pride and Prejudice” 15 years ago has overshadowed all of his other achievements.

He says angrily: “I’m not remotely interested in ‘Pride and Prejudice’ in any way and haven’t watched it since doing it.

“But the word Darcy is like a phantom that won’t leave me alone, like a school nickname that sticks with you for years afterwards.

“It was as if I hadn’t existed before ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ I was hailed as a new arrival even though I’d arrived ten years earlier.”

However Firth hopes his role as a gay lecturer in “A Single Man” will encourage fans to see him in a new light.

He says: “Being nominated for this small but special film is like being in a daze. I’m probably euphoric about it but I’m too dazed to know how I feel.”
