The Cinderella Castle at Disney World is taking a leaf from its movie namesake and receiving a major makeover.
“Our park’s iconic, awe-inspiring centerpiece — Cinderella Castle — is about to get even more magical,” Magic Kingdom vice president Jason Kirk posted on the Disney Parks blog Tuesday. Kirk also shared a concept image of what the “newly-enhanced” castle will look like when completed at the amusement park in Orlando, Fla.
The new and improved Cinderella-based attraction will follow in the glass slippers of the 1950 film’s titular character, whose “courage and kindness have been inspiring guests and cast members alike,” Kirk continued. “We are excited to share that her story has inspired a bold, shimmering and royal makeover of her namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort.”

It’s unclear when the Cinderella Castle’s “transformation” will be complete, however renovations are slated to begin over the next few weeks and continue into the summer, according to the blog. The 189-foot-tall castle will have pink and blue towers with gold embellishments.
Since its construction in 1971, the castle has been a focal point for romance-obsessed visitors, who regularly stage proposals in front of the fairy tale backdrop.
The newly-renovated fortress should provide a much-needed boost to the park. This past fall, the normally bustling Disney World resembled a Chernobyl-esque ghost town after it was forced to shutter ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
