FUNNY, HE DOES OPERA, TOO
MICHAEL Haneke, the acclaimed Austrian filmmaker whose “Funny Games” opens today, will be directing an opera by another native of his homeland, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Haneke’s version of “Cosi von Tutte” is scheduled for the 2012 season of the New York City Opera.
It will mark his second teaming with City Opera general manager designate Gerard Mortier. The two worked together on Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Paris Opera.
