Flying: Aussie band Jet stole the show from the Vines at Irving Plaza. The crowd went wild when the Melbourne group played their hit from the iPod commercial, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.” Then, the “O.C.”-friendly band ripped up Elvis’ first single, “That’s All Right (Mama).”
Enough already: A Weezer fan heard about DJ Danger Mouse’s “Grey Album,” which mixed Jay-Z’s “Black Album” and The Beatles’ “White Album” – then went to jayzconstructionset.com to create “Jay Zeezer,” which mashes Jay-Z with Weezer’s “Blue Album” (jay-zeezer.com).
That’s entertainment: The Gang of Four, inspiration to post-punk bands such as the Rapture and Radio 4, may do a summer reunion tour. “That will give me time to get in sight of fighting weight again,” drummer Hugo Burnham said. “We’re not going to do it if it’s four days out, rehearsing like an old pub band.”
Rewinds: The Mekons’ Jon Langford declared tapes are the future, as the band sold $5 cassettes of each song it performed at Maxwell’s last weekend. Even singer Sally Timms bought one. But tapes aren’t the future at Maxwell’s, which will install kiosks to enable concert-goers to download shows digitally.
