LOS ANGELES — Medical drama “House” has been renewed for an eighth season after months of negotiations with the cast, FOX Broadcasting announced Tuesday.

English actor Hugh Laurie will return to play the starring role of narcissistic medical whiz, Dr. Gregory House, for what could be the show’s final season as Laurie’s contract is set to expire in a year.

“The end of that season, right now looks like the end of the show. Well, that’s as far as they’ve got me for,” Laurie, 51, told the Radio Times magazine in a May interview.

Months of negotiating over salary cuts and licensing fees delayed the renewal of the FOX hit, according to media reports.

Co-stars Robert Sean Leonard and Lisa Edelstein are also expected to return to the top-rated series.

“Over the past seven seasons, ‘House’ has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment at FOX Broadcasting, said in a statement.

“From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the ‘House’ team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year,” he added.

FOX Broadcasting is owned by News Corporation, the parent company of NewsCore.
