DANNY Buraczewski’s Minneapolis-based company Jazzdance, which opened a week’s season at Joyce Theater on Tuesday night, instantly raises an interesting question.

Now what is jazz dance?

From his company’s performance Buraczewski appears to think it’s just dancing to jazz music.

The trouble is that Buraczewski’s choreography, whether you call it jazz, modern or whatever, is simply not very good.
