THE kids of Lazytown will never be lazy again, now that two high-energy newcomers have arrived in town.

That’s the premise behind “Lazytown,” a new Nick Jr. series premiering Monday morning that was adapted from a show that has been popular for years in Iceland.

Ironically, “Lazytown” is a TV show that encourages kids to choose outdoor activities over watching TV and other indoor pursuits such as napping and playing videogames.

“Lazytown” is the brainchild of an Ice-landic aerobics champion named Magnus Scheving, who stars on the series as Sporticus, a Spandex-wearing exercise guru whose enthusiasm for physical activities is infectious.

Since 1991, Scheving has parlayed his “Lazytown” concept into a cottage industry in Iceland, including books, theatrical performances and even a radio station.

In the new “Lazytown” on Nick, Sporticus teams up with another new arrival – a pink-haired little girl named Stephanie -to encourage the town’s couch-potato kids to come out and play.

“Lazytown” is a fanciful blend of live-action characters and elaborate puppets interacting against vibrant backgrounds in day-glo colors.

Kids will identify particularly with Stephanie – played by Julianna Rose Mauriello.

She’s a young Broadway vet (“Gypsy,” “Oklahoma”) who gets to belt out a catchy song or two in every episode.

And she dances too – simple steps that will be impossible for any young couch potato to resist.
