Mark Ruffalo is in “late-stage talks” to replace Edward Norton as The Incredible Hulk, Deadline.com reported Wednesday.

The 42-year actor would be the third actor to go green for the role, after Norton and Eric Bana gave it a shot in two previous films. Neither was the blockbuster hit hoped for by producers.

This time, at least, The Hulk will not have to carry a movie on his own. Ruffalo would play the part in the superhero ensemble flick “The Avengers,” set to be released in 2012.

It features Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, among other fictional life-savers.

Ruffalo is currently starring in new indie film “The Kids Are All Right.”
